Treatment Information
What are homeopathic medicines?

Homeopathic medicines are manufactured by repeatedly diluting and succussing (shaking) a preparation of the original substance, mainly plants and minerals, in water and alcohol.

  • Herbs are plant-derived remedies.

Nutraceuticals are plant-derived or chemically manufactured nutrients. They could be multivitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, enzymes, probiotics, etc.

What are IM therapies?

It is a common belief that accumulation of toxins and the body’s delay or inability to excrete toxins creates a build-up of waste material. The usual pathways in which the body aids in filtering out impurities include the kidney and bladder, liver, gallbladder, as well as lungs and even your skin. Intramuscular injections of homeopathic solutions to aid the body’s natural detox pathways of the liver, lymph, gallbladder, and kidneys may be an alternative to the regular IV treatment protocol.

What are IV therapies?

IV therapy, or intravenous therapy, is a medical treatment that delivers fluids, medications, vitamins, and nutrients directly into a patient's bloodstream through a vein. This method allows for rapid absorption and immediate effect, making it an effective option for hydration, nutritional support, and medication administration.

Sleep and Stress Management
How can I improve my sleep?

Improve sleep by limiting exposure to electronic devices an hour before bed, which may stimulate the brain and prevent quality sleep. Try relaxation music prior to or during sleep to help promote calmness and ease anxiety. Some may benefit from melatonin as a natural sleep aid. Melatonin is a hormone naturally produced in the body that induces sleepiness. Other suggestions include adding a few drops of essential lavender oil to a warm bath. Lavender oil has calming properties, and you can also add a drop or two to your pillowcase.

How can I manage stress effectively?

Recognizing and managing stress is crucial.
Ways to help reduce stress:

  • Meditate: A few minutes of practice per day can help ease anxiety. Research has shown that daily meditation can alter the brain’s neural pathways, making one more resistant to stress.
  • Deep Breathing: Counters the effects of stress by slowing the heart rate and lowering blood pressure.
  • Be Present: Slow down and take 5 minutes to be present in the moment. Authentic presence in the moment helps you focus and feel less tense.
  • Reach Out: Surround yourself with positive people. Your social network is one of your best tools for handling stress.
  • Decompress: Place a warm heat wrap around your neck and shoulders for ten minutes. Close your eyes, relaxing your face, neck, upper chest, and back muscles.
  • Laugh Out Loud: A good belly laugh doesn’t just lighten the load mentally; it lowers cortisol, your body’s stress hormone, and boosts brain chemicals called endorphins, lightening your mood.
  • Music Therapy: Research shows that listening to soothing music can lower blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety.
  • Get Moving: All forms of exercise, including yoga and walking, can ease depression and anxiety by helping the brain release endorphins and giving your body the chance to work out the stress energy with movement.
  • Be Grateful: Keep a gratitude journal to help you remember all the things that are good in your life. Gratitude for blessings cancels out negative thoughts and worries.
Why is sleep important for my health?

Quality sleep is essential for mental and physical well-being. It supports healing, hormone balance, and immune function. Sleep deficiency increases the risk of obesity. Sleep helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don’t get enough sleep, your level of ghrelin goes up and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier than those who are well rested.

Sleep affects how your body reacts to insulin, the hormone that controls your blood glucose (sugar) level. Sleep deficiency results in a higher than normal blood sugar level, which increases your risk for diabetes.

Sleep supports healthy growth and development. Deep sleep triggers the body to release the hormone that promotes normal growth in children and teens. This hormone also boosts muscle mass and helps repair cells and tissues in the human body. Sleep also plays a role in puberty and fertility.

Your immune system relies on sleep to stay healthy. This system defends your body against foreign or harmful substances. Ongoing sleep deficiency can change the way your immune system responds. For example, if you’re sleep deficient, you may have trouble fighting off common infections.

Studies also show that sleep deficiency alters activity in some parts of the brain; therefore, you may have trouble making decisions, solving problems, controlling emotions/behavior, and coping with change. You may feel angry and impulsive, have mood swings, feel sad or depressed, or lack motivation. Teens/students may have problems paying attention and may get lower grades and feel stressed.

Appointment Policies
How strict are appointment times at PI?

Appointments at PI are scheduled according to strict time frames, so please plan accordingly. If an appointment is scheduled for 30 minutes from 8 AM to 8:30 AM, the provider will be available to meet until 8:30 AM only. If a patient arrives late, that is less time with the provider to address questions and concerns. For this reason, if a patient arrives more than 10 minutes late for their visit, they will not be seen under any circumstance. It creates a stressful environment in which to accomplish the needs of the visit and to have all questions answered. It is therefore imperative that patients plan accordingly for traffic and last-minute delays. If a patient does arrive more than ten (10) minutes late, they will be charged the full price of the visit and asked to reschedule. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS RULE. It is a challenge to meet the needs of all our patients and keep the office running on time. Our patients know they will be seen when scheduled and enjoy the dependability of this commitment. We ask that all patients understand this policy is in place for the betterment of all and recognize that this PI policy is not intended as a punitive measure.

On rare occasions, medical emergencies occur at GMI that might delay the start of a patient’s visit. If the emergency happens near a patient’s scheduled appointment, every effort will be made by GMI staff to alert the patient of the delay and offer to reschedule the appointment if this impacts the patient’s schedule in any way.

Clean Living and Detoxification
How should I clean my produce?

To maintain the nutritional value of fresh produce, clean your produce in a sink full of water with 4-8 oz. of distilled vinegar for 30 minutes to wash off residual pesticides/herbicides and kill germs. If you desire a greater germ-killing boost, add a tablespoon or two of salt. A study in the Journal of Food Protection found that vinegar’s ability to kill E. Coli bacteria was significantly enhanced when salt was added to the mix.

What are some natural alternatives to traditional cleaning products?

Natural cleaning alternatives include white distilled vinegar, lemon juice, baking soda, and essential oils. These can effectively clean without harmful chemicals. Cleaning Alternatives:

  • White distilled vinegar: Acidic vinegar disinfects, deodorizes, preserves, breaks up dirt, grease, mineral deposits, mold, and mildew. For an air freshener, add 20-30 drops of your favorite essential oil to 1 cup of vinegar in a spray bottle.
  • Lemon juice: Deodorizes, lightens stains, cuts grease, and acts as a mild bleach when exposed to sunlight. For a laundry brightener, add ½ cup of strained lemon juice to the rinse cycle. To remove tarnish, rub sliced lemons on brass, copper, bronze, and aluminum.
  • Baking Soda: Is slightly abrasive but neutralizes odors and makes a good sink/tub/oven/countertop cleanser. It softens hard water, removes acidic stains, and polishes stainless steel without scratching. Place an open box of baking soda in the fridge to absorb odors or sprinkle on carpets before vacuuming.
  • Washing Soda: Found in the supermarket laundry aisle, washing soda is baking soda’s more caustic cousin. It’s stronger and requires the use of gloves. It’s used for rinsing more stubborn stains. To clean greasy ovens, apply a paste of 1 cup baking soda, ¼ cup washing soda, and water. Soak overnight. The next morning, lift off the soda mixture and grime. Rinse well. For light stains, just use baking soda. Add ½ cup of washing soda to laundry as a detergent booster.
  • Borax: This alkaline mineral is found in the laundry aisle of the supermarket and can be used like washing soda as a cleaner. It also kills mold but can be toxic if swallowed, so take care in using and storing it. For an extra strength toilet bowl cleaner, pour 1 cup of borax into the toilet before going to bed. In the morning, scrub and flush.
  • Olive Oil: This natural oil aids in restoring and polishing wood.
  • Liquid Soap: Is derived from plants and is a gentle cleanser made from olive oil (castile soap), palm, and coconut oils instead of petroleum derivatives or animal fat.

Essential Oils: Are aromatic plant oils. Tea tree, eucalyptus, and lavender are natural antifungals. Even though they are not registered with the EPA as disinfectants, they have been used for millennia to kill germs. Pure essential oils may irritate eyes or skin, so handle with care. They need to be diluted with carrier oil.

Supplement Guidelines
Do I have to use specific brands for my supplements?

Yes, quality is paramount. Our selected products are free from harmful substances and are designed to optimize healing.

How do I take my herbs?
  • Herbs are best taken 10-15 minutes away from food, either upon rising, before bed, or in the middle of the afternoon.
  • To take herbs, simply shake the bottle, put the drops into a little bit of water, and then drink. If more than one herb is in your protocol, you may mix them by manufacturer or take one after the other.
How do I take my homeopathics?
  • Homeopathics are best taken 10-15 minutes away from food, either upon rising, before bed, or in the middle of the afternoon.
  • Bottles are thumped a few times in the palm of the hand. Drops are placed either directly under the tongue or in a tiny bit of water and held in the mouth for 20 seconds before swallowing. They are absorbed by the mucous membranes under the tongue. Children may swallow directly. If you have any questions, ask your PCC which of your prescribed products are homeopathic.
  • If you are taking multiple homeopathics, take them one after another.
  • Certain substances can nullify homeopathics. Do your best to keep caffeine (coffee, tea, soda, chocolate), mint (toothpaste, mouthwash, breath mints), menthol, or any other strong-smelling substances about 20 minutes away from your dose. Using a non-mint toothpaste would be helpful.
How do I take my nutraceuticals?

Capsules may be swallowed with a sip of water, either individually or all at once. Ideally, if taken with a meal, you could space pills out by taking a bite of food and chewing it thoroughly until it becomes liquid in your mouth. Then slip in a pill and swallow. Do this repeatedly, spacing out the pills between your food. This avoids drinking a lot of fluid with your meals. Water is better consumed between meals as opposed to with food. Some capsules may be opened and mixed with food, especially for those who cannot swallow pills (such as children).

How should I store my supplements?

All supplements should be stored in a cool, dark place, not in full sun, heat, or freezing temperatures, not in the car, and not near any EMF-producing devices (refrigerators, microwaves, stoves, dishwashers, hand appliances, TV, radio, corded alarm clock).

How soon can I eat after taking my “away from food” supplements?

Wait for about 10-15 minutes before consuming food and non-water beverages. Water may always be taken with these supplements.

What if I am “super-sensitive” to any new oral products?

Then you will have to introduce supplements much more gradually, sometimes one at a time. You may also dilute your liquids further. Instead of starting with 5 drops, start with 1 drop and build up gradually. If you need further dilution, put one drop into ½ cup of water, take a sip, then a few sips more, and repeat until finished, building up to taking one drop all at once. Then slowly add one drop at a time until you reach your full suggested dosage.

What if I experience a reaction taking my oral supplements?

Many people experience temporary, short-lived cleansing symptoms called “Herxheimer reactions” from taking their supplements. They may include rash, mucous drainage, headache, dizziness, slight fever, sore throat, fatigue, aches, change in stool/urine, or nausea. These reactions usually go away in a few hours. If they persist, stop your product for 24 hours and let the reaction subside. Try restarting your products at a reduced dose the following day, and gradually increase up to the full suggested dose. You may also restart products one at a time to see which one bothered you. Sometimes increasing your water intake with remedies will also help.

What if the alcohol in my drops bothers me?

If the alcohol bothers you, add the drops to a little bit of hot (not boiling) water, wait 3 minutes, and then take. Most of the alcohol will have dissipated of by this time.
